A really big thanks to all of the gamers that stopped for a quick chat or tried a game of Witchfinder General at Smoggycon yesterday. This year's friendly show was organised by Leon of Pendraken Miniatures - and it appeared to run just as smoothly as other years.

I am pleased to report that there were lots of folk, particularly gamers with less wrinkles than me, that took the time to try a game of Witchfinder - and the fighting around Ellsmouth Castle was almost constant. I am sorry that I did not get the opportunity to talk with everyone that was interested in the game.

There were several fun but nail biting games. Young Megan arrived as a timely reinforcement during one game and saved the day by taking down a vicious werewolf with her repeating crossbow. The Witchfinders were not always so lucky and many perished from the accurate shooting of the Blinders, who were positioned in the castle, and the savage barguests and flying witches that counter attacked.

I only had time for a very quick look around the rest of the show to see the other games and trade stands that were available. Hirkybird http://herkybird-richardbradley.blogspot.co.uk/2013/11/smoggycon-2013.htmland Count Belisarius http://blog.belisarius.org.uk/smoggycon-2013have posted informative reviews of Smoggycon 2013 on their respective blogs with some great photos of the day (despite the main hall's yellow lighting).

The Brompton Bankers had failed to negotiate a ceasefire in Toy Town (their game looked like real fun) and the west was clearly very wild on Saturday with 'El Necromunda' (Scarborough Games Society) , Pony Wars ( Durham Wargamers) and Wild West Cinema ( Consett Gamers ).

I was really pleased to see that Hoka Hey Wargaming have re-released the late Jim Bowen's excellent Border Reivers figures .

I hope that everyone got home in time to watch Dr Who.

It was nothing personal - just routine pre-game procedure . As you actually passed the said water test - it was great to meet you too.

Hi Eric - I agree it was a very good show, the best Smoggycon I can remember and it was great to meet you on the day. I wasn't even scared off my your Witchfinder outfit although why you felt the need to sprinkle me with holy water is beyond me.
