My order of 'dungeon grilles' arrived from Fenris Games today ( a pair of 296 x 38mm laser-cut grilles with engraved bolt heads, cut in 1.5mm thick plywood). If I make another prison wagon I will definitely use this material for the cage instead of wire mesh - easier to cut and it will look more realistic. http://www.fenrisgames.com/shop.html#!/~/product/category=8705462&id=10989284

You could try embroiderer's mesh. It's easier to use, lighter, and probably cheaper, although a little fragile. You should be able to get it from any quality haberdashier's. |

Hello Sarge,
To make the cage I used a sheet of 5mm squared wire mesh ‘snipped’ into sections: Two 6cm x 4cm side sections, two 4cm x 4.5cm end sections and one 6cm x 4.5cm roof section. I used heavy duty snippers and wore safety glasses when cutting the wire as bits can fly off with the viciousness of fairie shotte!
I used four 4cm lengths of 3mm width right angled plastic rod as corners for the cage and super glued the mesh sections to these to make the rectangular cage. http://www.relishmodels.co.uk/image.php?object_type=detailed&image_id=2251&window=popup
I super glued the bottom of the cage to the plasticard undercarriage base and then added a second thin (3mm) balsa wood cage floor. The balsa wood had been ‘etched ‘ with a pencil with lines to resemble planks of wooden flooring.

Always on the lookout for a bargain: you can get four wagon wheels [two large, two small] for £1.40 from Spencer Smith Miniatures. They're in their SSM 18thC range and fit in with 28mm figures. |

Thanks Sarge. I bought the wheels used on the Prison Wagon off ebay from Trent Miniatures (described as 28mm diameter British Wheels). There are 8 wheels in the pack so there is enough to make two Prison Wagons or some other gubbins.
